Our apartment

( I know that pictures would be nice, but we simply don't have the technology just yet)

We're on the 23rd floor of the south tower of the China World apartments, next to the China World hotel. Stepping into the foyer, you can look down at the glassy marble floor tiles beneath your feet. On your left is the entrance to a galley kitchen, the far end of which opens to the dining area, beyond which is a glass door that leads to a small balcony on which are two iron lawn chairs. On your right is a full-length mirror mounted on a polished wood wall. Walking directly ahead leads you to a hard linoleum floor designed to look like wood paneling, running perpendicuarly to the foyer. If you take this hallway to the right, it leads to a walk-in pantry/storeroom, a guest bedroom, and the master suite. If you take this hallway to the left, it leads to another guest bedroom and the guest bathroom. If you keep walking past these two rooms, the hallway opens up into a room that combines the dining area on the left with a living room space on the right.

Check out this map of our place.

Popcorn in China

Michael's comments to follow:

I bought two sachets of microwave popcorn on Saturday and popped one of them Saturday night. It had no oil or butter in it, which surprised me (in a pleasant way; I wasn't in the mood for greasy), but the popcorn was dotted with caramelized sugar. How odd, I thought. The resulting taste was a bit like caramel corn, but much much lighter. It was okay, but I prefer salty popcorn, I think. Anyhow, I got out my dictionary and looked up the characters on the sachet and it turns out it was strawberry flavored. As far as I could tell, nothing about the popcorn tasted remotely strawberry-ish, but my brain doesn't work as well as it ought to, due to the jetlag.

Cara's thoughts:
And here I thought getting use to the meat dishes would take some effort.

Michael made it

Michael is in what will soon be our new home. A 3 bedroom apartment near the China World Hotel (which is actually a Shangri-la Hotel, but that's not what people call it. Maybe that will make more sense to me once I get over there.)

Heading to China -50%

Michael heads out tomorrow morning for China. Having spent almost 2 weeks together, we have now tripled the amount of time we have spent together since getting married.

(the 50% refers to the fact that only 50% of this married couple is heading to China. Apparently this was not obvious to the man about to board a plane, so this explanation has been added)

Communication is for the weak and untrained

Cara's computer decided to give up its life today. Well, at least the life of its screen. This is particularly poor timing as Michael is about to leave for China and their only method of communication will be via email.

Working late (where there is a free internet available) is suddenly looking pretty good.
